Description

Family planning providers are required to offer couneling to all women who receive a positive pregnancy test result. This counseling includes a discussion of the options that are available to the client, including prenatal care and delivery, infant care, foster care or adoption, and pregnancy termination. Through this training, participants in this event will learn client-centered skills that can be applied to help a client explore her feelings and concerns about her pregnancy, weigh the available alternatives and make an independent decision.

As a result of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the fundamentals of client-centered pregnancy options counsleing
  • Discuss the challenges of providing client-centered pregnancy options counseling
  • Apply appropriate client-centered counseling skills during a pregnancy options visit
  • Identify additional sources of support and referrals for the client
  • Identify their values and attitudes around pregnancy options
